Helping nature out-perform pesticide use through AI powered technologies.

Terramera is a Canadian technology company that promotes regenerative agriculture, soil health and carbon sequestration.

Mission statement:

"Terramera is a global agtech leader fusing science, nature and artificial intelligence to transform how food is grown and the economics of agriculture in the next decade. With our revolutionary Actigate™ technology platform, we are committed to reducing the global synthetic pesticide load by 80% by 2030 to protect plant and human health and ensure an earth that thrives and provides for everyone."

The company argues for all of Canadas farmland to be moved towards a regenerative based form of agriculture, which can sequestor massive ammounts of CO2 if adopted across the nation. To push this initiative forward, they have unveilled plans to setup a global centre for regenerative agriculture, sponsored by Amazon.

Aside from this they also have technological products which aim to increase efficiency in farming practices, as well as quantifying CO2 sequestration.

Their AI based technology is twofold:

1) It is a way of measuring CO2 levels in soil, to quantify how much carbon is being sequestered, which is needed to convince institutes / actors to invest in regenerative agriculture.

How it works: Remote sensing from satellites, UAVs and drones expand the operational area and reduces costs of data sourcing. They combine this with computational chemistry, sensor data and farm activity data to enable mass quantification of soil carbon, and plant health.

2) Their Actigate™ Targeted Performance technology makes natural inputs more effective when growing crops so much so that natural input can outperform pesticides and fertilisers when using their technology. Pesticide reduction is important as it can inhibit plant health and prevent carbon sequestration!

The science in simple terms: this technology allows the nutrients given to plants to be directed into specifically targeted cells within the plant, making them get 10x more use out of water and nutrients.
